Cycle Horizons offer both Individual and group mountain bike skills sessions and group mountain bike rides in some of the best mountain biking terrain in Surrey and throughout the UK. Cycle Horizons pioneer the MIAS Instructor award (2 day format) in Surrey as well as a variety of Cycle Maintenance courses to suit. Cycle Horizons offer:

Cycle FIT Maintenance Course Award L1/2 (Accredited)
This is a nationally recognised NVQ standard course covering:
Mountain bike anatomy/ Cycle Mechanic Tools/ Puncture Repair/ Chain care & repair/ Adjusting gears & brakes/ Bike cleaning & lubrication/ Replacing gear & brake cables/ Adjusting/replacing brake blocks & disc pads/ (Level 3 Award covers - Headset removal/ replacement, Bottom Bracket Removal & replacement, Wheel truing.
*Candidates that meet the requirement will receive both a Cycle FIT Maintenance Course Logbook to record their ongoing achievements as well as receive a Cycle FIT Maintenance Course certificate to the appropriate level.

MIAS Mountain Bike Instructor Award L1/2 (AALA/ABC accredited)
This is a internationally recognised 2 day Instructor course:
Level 1 Outline
For instructors to lead groups off road on way marked tracks below 600 meters and within close proximity of aid. Typically; cycle tracks, forestry, parks, canal tow paths.
Candidate requirements: Previous mountain bike experience.
Level 2 Outline
For instructors who want to lead groups on moorland or mountainous terrain up to 600 meters and within 30 minutes of habitation. Technically more demanding, climbs and descents on loose surfaces, small drop-offs, log hops, mud and water crossing.
Candidate requirements: Previous mountain bike experience, plus Basic Expedition Leader's Award or Mountain Leader award or similar mountain experience, experience in more technical terrain.
*Candidates that meet the requirement will receive a MIAS Instructor Course Logbook to record their ongoing achievements and a MIAS Instructor Award Certificate to the appropriate level.

Cycle Maintenance Course Award (Non accredited)
This is a chance to learn how to fix and maintain your bike in a way that's more participant led. We cover similar topics as the accredited course with the option to focus on specific areas. Individuals & small groups can learn the basics or have a tailored workshop designed for them. A standard course may cover:
Mountain bike anatomy/ Cycle Mechanic Tools/ Puncture Repair/ Chain care & repair/ Adjusting gears & brakes/ Bike cleaning & lubrication/ Replacing gear & brake cables/ Adjusting/replacing brake blocks & disc pads/ Headset removal & replacement/ Bottom Bracket Removal & replacement/ Wheel truing. (Shock repair & Wheel building not covered)

The Mountain Bike Instructors Award Scheme differs from other courses that are available in that it has national academic accreditation. Currently this instructor's award is equivalent to an N.V.Q. it is accredited by: The Birmingham Education Authority, The Statutory Youth Service, West Midlands Police and The Urban Adventure Support Group, The Association Of British Cycle Coaches, Cyclists Touring Club and it is recognised by the Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority.
